We are asked this question regularly. Well you can but you have to hot spot other devices, in most households there are several users who may have up to 3 devices each on average, TVs for example require a lot of data and good signal – if the hot-spotted phone is moved that could be a break in your movie. Hot spotting through a phone is a temporary fix when your away from home.
Yes you can buy a desktop 4G Router, but where are you going to place it and do you know which type you should have? Receiving a 4G signal inside the house is of course very possible and sometimes with good results, but users can find a lot of intermittent signal and speed issues. By using an external antenna you get the absolute best signal all the time providing best speed and no dropouts.
5G is only available in large cities and towns despite what you might read, it is not available in small towns or villages and certainly not in rural areas, essentially 5G technology is not a good fit for rural areas. If a 5G signal is available where you live, then its most likely traditional cable ADSL and Fibre services are also available, or course each case is individual and these are rules of thumb based on the state of play in the UK today. We do sometimes fit 5G ready antennas because these have the highest signal gain and provide the best chance of a usable 4G signal if you are located a long way from the mobile phone mast.
